TUCSON - Customs and Border Protection officers seized over $2.8 million worth of marijuana Wednesday, representing the fifth largest bust in Nogales since 1990.
Officers at the Mariposa Port of Entry referred 41-year-old Nogales, Sonora resident Erik Arredondo Garfel for additional inspection of the tractor-trailer he was attempting to drive into the United States, according to a news release from CBP.

Officers became suspicious while inspecting a shipment of electronic components, and brought a drug-sniffing dog to sniff for concealed contraband, the release states. After the dog alerted to the presence of drugs, officers found and removed 240 bundles of marijuana weighing nearly 5,700 pounds.
The tractor trailer and its contents were processed for seizure, and Arredondo Garfel was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
